CLARION - Pushed to the limit throughout, the sixth-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond boys basketball team narrowly escaped with a 67-64 victory over Clarion-Goldfield here on Tuesday night.

Senior Robby Burke delivered his 11th double-double of the season for the Gaels (10-1 overall, 9-1 in the North Central Conference) with 35 points and 16 rebounds. Juniors Landon Peed (12) and Matthew Bocken (10) were next in line offensively for SEHS.

Peed also dished out nine assists to help aid the victory.

"You have to give Clarion a lot of credit," said St. Edmond head coach Adolph Kochendorfer. "We didn't do some things well defensively, and (the Cowboys) took advantage of it. I thought they really played hard on defense. I?was impressed."

The Gaels went 9-for-13 at the free throw line compared to just 2 of 2 for the Cowboys. Defensively, SEHS forced 15 Clarion-Goldfield turnovers.

"Both teams shot it (over 50 percent from the field), and they hit eight threes which helped them stay close," Kochendorfer said. "When we were able to score a little bit, we just couldn't get any defensive stops."
