CLARION - The fourth-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond girls basketball team jumped back into the win column with a 46-36 victory over Clarion-Goldfield here on Tuesday evening.

After being tested for a majority of the game, the Gaels (11-1 overall, 10-1 in the North Central Conference) pulled away by outscoring the Cowgirls 16-9 in the fourth quarter to prevail.

"We weren't able to get out and run, and Clarion didn't give us anything off the dribble," said SEHS head coach Scott Messerly. "We forced the issue a little bit and missed some easy shots inside, but give (the Cowgirls) credit for a good gameplan. I thought they had the right idea (defensively)."

Junior Anna Yung paced St. Edmond with 17 points and six assists, while senior Alli Huss contributed her ninth double-double of the season, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jaci Stumpf, another junior, added nine points and five assists.

"Alli and Jaci were in foul trouble early, but we ended up getting through the fourth quarter with no problem," Messerly said. "Clarion actually went up by a point or two once during the second half. With about three and a half or four minutes left, we were finally able to open (the lead) up."

Maddie Disney (12) and Jossie Sann (11) each scored in double figures for the Cowgirls (7-5, 5-5), who were unable to avenge an earlier 71-34 setback to the Gaels.
