A three-vehicle accident sent one woman to the hospital Tuesday morning after another woman allegedly ran a stop sign.

The accident happened at 7:47 a.m.

Fort Dodge Police Lt. Dennis Mernka said a Chrysler 300, driven by Julie Davis, ran a stop sign at Seventh Avenue North and Ninth Street.

By running the stop sign, Mernka said she hit two other vehicles; another Chrysler, driven by Emma Reynoso, and a Chevy HHR, driven by Jodena Elkina.

Reynoso was transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center, and though Mernka did not know her condition, he said her injuries appeared to be minor.

While the accident was being investigated, Mernka said officers temporarily closed 10th Street to Ninth Street from the intersection on Seventh Avenue North. He said there were multiple reasons why this was done.

"There was debris all over and we didn't want people driving all over it," he said. "It also happened at the intersection and since it's a one-way we didn't want congestion right there."

All three vehicles had to be towed because of the damage, and Davis was given a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.
