To the editor:
An Iowa treasure, the Iowa State Fairgrounds, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the State Fair has gained international fame over the years. The fair plays a vital role in Iowa's economy while upholding the link between Iowa's work ethic, achievement, educational system and talent. The fair is a tradition every Iowan can be proud of, and the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation is dedicated to continuing that legacy by raising funds for the restoration and preservation for our historic Fairgrounds.
The Corndog Checkoff, also known as the State Fairgrounds Renovation Check Off, is one way that Iowans can aid in the Blue Ribbon Foundation's mission. By checking off $1 (or more) on your taxes, your gift is either deducted from your refund or added to your amount due and is directly allocated to capital improvements on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Contributions are fully tax-deductible.
The Corndog Checkoff has raised over $1.7 million for restoration projects including the historic Grandstand, Ye Old Mill, Cultural Center, Varied Industries Building, and the 4-H Building to name a few. In addition, funds generated by the Corndog Checkoff have helped improve the campgrounds, parking areas, sidewalks and restrooms. Every Iowan has had a better experience at the Iowa State Fair because of the Corndog Checkoff. Thank you for your consideration.
