Thomas Nilles

Thomas Edward Nilles, of Fort Dodge, will celebrate his 90th birthday on July 11. A public open house will be held to celebrate his birthday from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 9 in the Tompkins Celebration Room at Friendship Haven, 420 Kenyon Road.

His family includes Tim and Gin Nilles, of Webster City; John and Patti Nilles, of Ankeny; Laura and Joe Sullivan, of Louisville, Kentucky; and Teresa and Jim Maxwell, of Omaha, Nebraska. He has 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was married 63 years to Mary Ann Nilles. She passed away Dec. 28, 2019.

Nilles was born July 11, 1932, in Gregory, South Dakota. He is a 1959 graduate of Iowa State University and a U.S. Army veteran, having served as an Army truck driver from 1953 to 1955. He married Mary Ann Kolbeck in 1956 in Ashton. A civil engineer by trade, he retired from McClure Engineering in Fort Dodge in 1994.
