WEBSTER CITY — Gus Dermand, of Webster City, will celebrate his 100th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. July 13 at Southfield Assisted Living Center, 2414 S. Des Moines St., Webster City.

His family includes Steve Dermand, of Indianola; Beth Alt, of Seward, Nebraska; and Emily Dermand, of Ankeny. He has 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His wife, Nancy J. Dermand, is deceased.

Dermand was born on July 16, 1924, in Webster City. He is a former mayor of Webster City, ran Dermands Cafe in Webster City for 50 years, was a janitor at Elm Park Elementary and worked for the city of Webster City lawn mowing. He is a World War II veteran.
