Carol Sieben

Carol Sieben, of Fort Dodge, will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 30 at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Dodge.

Her family includes her husband, Drew Sieben, of Fort Dodge; Ward and Kami Sieben of Ozark, Missouri; and Andrea and Michael Pavik, of Fort Dodge. She has five grandchildren.

Carol Placher was born on June 30, 1944, and grew up in Lawn Ridge, Illinois. She met her husband, Drew Sieben, while working as a nurse in Peoria, Illinois. They were married at her parents’ family home in 1970. She worked as a public health nurse and later as a nurse in her husband’s medical office. When their children were in school, she went back to school part time and got her teaching degree. She taught as a Title 1 reading teacher and also as a first grade teacher. She retired from teaching in 2009, but has continued to substitute teach and volunteer at Riverside and the Early Childhood Center. She is active in her church and community.
