Fort Dodge Area Symphony concert Sunday
The Fort Dodge Area Symphony will present the final concert of its 2022-2023 season at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Fort Dodge Middle School auditorium, 800 N. 32nd St. Titled “Forces of Destiny,” this concert will feature winners of the symphony’s 2023 Young Artists Competition, which since 1966 has been providing young musicians living and studying in Iowa with the opportunity to perform as soloist with the orchestra. This year, the symphony will be accompanying five young artists in music by Johann Neruda, Ian Clarke, Andres Martin, Edward Elgar and Maurice Ravel. The concert will also include Verdi’s Force of Destiny Overture and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol.
In addition to the concert, there will be a pre-concert performance featuring winners of the Youth Honors Recital at 2:25 pm. These elementary and middle school age musicians may one day appear onstage with the symphony as a Young Artists Competition soloist.
About this concert, music director and conductor Joshua Barlage says, “Our Young Artists Concert is always a season highlight for us, where we have the honor of showcasing some of Iowa’s most dedicated and hardworking young musicians. It is important to our mission that we provide young musicians with a memorable and rewarding performance and learning experience.”
Single tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the concert. Adult admission is $15 and students are always welcome to attend free of charge. Fort Dodge Area Symphony concerts generally last about 90 minutes and can be enjoyed by all ages.
