Concert will also feature Morgan Myles

Joe Nichols

Two nationally known singers, including one with a local connection, will take the stage in Fort Dodge for the Downtown Country Jam on Saturday.

Joe Nichols, perhaps best known for the song “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” will be the headliner.

Morgan Myles, who placed third on “The Voice” in 2022, will also sing. She is a friend of Fort Dodge native Dani Huss. Dani Huss, and her mother, Dee Huss, flew to Los Angeles to watch Myles in the semi final round of “The Voice.”

The opening act will be Tyler Richton & The High Bank Boys, a band based in Deep River.

Nichols, Myles and Tyler Richton & The High Bank Boys will fill downtown with their distinctive country music sounds from a stage at Central Avenue and Ninth Street.

“It’s going to be a great event,” said Craig Schlienz, a member of the Shellabration Inc. Board of Directors that organizes the concert.

Schlienz said the board signed Nichols with the belief that “this would be another home run for a Downtown Country Jam headliner.”

Tickets cost $45. Any unsold tickets will cost $50 at the gate.

Nichols has 18 Top 40 hits and received the Top New Male Vocalist Award from the Academy of Country Music.

His musical career started when he was 19 playing in a group called The Rodeo Band. His first album “Joe Nichols” was released in 1996. His second album, “Man With a Memory” released in 2002 included the hit single “The Impossible” which soared to No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart.

The next single from that album — “Brokenheartsville” — hit No. 1 on the charts.

His run of hits since then includes “She Only Smokes When She Drinks,” “Cool to be a Fool,” “If Nobody Believed In You,” “What’s a Guy Gotta Do,” “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” “Size Matters (Someday),” “I’ll Wait for You,” ” Another Side of You,” “It Ain’t No Crime,” “Believers,” “Gimme That Girl,” “The Shape I’m In,” “Take It Off,” “Sunny and 75,” “Yeah,” and “Hard To be Cool.”

Morgan Myles

“Morgan gained this Fort Dodge following through Dani Huss,” Schlienz said.

Myles recalled that she and Huss met in about 2019 at an establishment in Nashville, Tennessee, called The Tin Roof after one of her shows.

“She just came up and started chatting with me,” Myles said.

“We’re very, very similar humans,” she added. “We just really connected. We’re kind of like the same person.”.

Her performance on “The Voice” in 2022 shifted her music career into a higher gear.

“I am the fastest four-chair turn in the history of ‘The Voice,” she said.

Her performance of the song “Hallelujah” prompted judges like Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to spin around to show their approval.

Her songs include “Vertigo,” “Holy Water,” “Acapella,” “Whiskey Dreaming,” “Sanctuary,” “Two Words, One Finger,” and “Reap.”

“Having her in our lineup will make this year’s Downtown Country Jam really powerful,” said Jim Reed, the president of Shellabration Inc.
