‘A Choral Harvest’
Fort Dodge Choral Society to present fall concert Sunday
The Fort Dodge Choral Society is promising a harvest of musical bounty during its Sunday afternoon concert.
The theme of the concert is “A Choral Harvest.” It will begin at 3 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 400 S. 13th St. Admission is $12; all students, including college students, are admitted free.
“I think people will be in for a treat,” said Greta Nelson, the artistic director of the Choral Society.
“It’s going to be a good concert,” she added. “I gave them some tricky music and they’re handling it well.”
Nelson said the songs selected for this concert will show how “choral music of the 21st century continues to build on the music of the periods that came before it.”
Songs from the Renaissance, Baroque period (1600-1750), True Classical period (1750-1820), Romantic period (1820-1900) and 20th century will be performed Sunday.
“Gloria,” by Vivaldi, is an example of the songs concert-goers will hear.
The Fort Dodge Choral Society currently includes 34 singers.
“We have so many passionate musicians in the Fort Dodge area and just getting to see them work together in this choral setting is inspiring,” Nelson said.
She said more singers are always welcome. Anyone interested in joining should contact her at ms.nelson.choir@gmail.com.
