The Fort Museum Opera House brings the British invasion to Valentine’s Sweetheart Gala
The Fort Museum’s Opera House is set to host its first Valentine’s Sweetheart Gala on Feb. 15. Guests are invited to enjoy a night of romance, music, dancing, and fun as a way to raise funds for the Fort Museum and Frontier Village
“This is our first time hosting a Valentine’s gala like this,” said Jena Becker, board member. “We are really wanting to update our chairs, tables, sound system, as we rely on donations through the community to help keep the Fort open and everything up-to-date.”
During the night, guests will be able to enjoy British rock music performed by The Brits. They base their music around the historic British invasion of the 1960s. The Brits cover a variety of bands including the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, the Rolling Stones, The Who, Van Morrison, and many more.
“The Brits were here for Frontier Days last year,” said Deb Davis, executive director of the Fort Museum and Frontier Village. “They are a blast to watch and listen to and always put on a fun, unique show.”
The band consists of five men based around the Omaha, Nebraska, area, and they recreate the sound, style and excitement of the British invasion.
“For those of us who were around for the British invasion, watching The Brits perform brings back so many memories and makes me feel young again,” said Davis.
As well as music and dancing there will be a bar available to purchase drinks and also a dessert table to purchase yummy treats.
“If you are a bride or looking for a wedding venue, this is the perfect opportunity to come check out the Opera House while we have it decorated sweet and romantic,” added Davis.
Along with the Sweetheart Gala, the Fort Museum hosts many other fundraising events throughout the year. Every Monday and Thursday there is bingo from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. For each holiday this year, the Fort is raffling off holiday specific fleece blankets with a bingo card backing. Tickets are $1 each and available at the Fort during operation hours.
The Valentine’s fleece raffle drawing will be Thursday, Feb. 13 during bingo.
“We really enjoy holding fun events that people will enjoy to help support the Fort,” said Becker. “We want people to want to support us instead of asking for a handout.”
The Valentine’s Sweetheart Gala will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Fort Museum Opera House, 1 Museum Road. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
