Fort Dodge and area residents will be able to see the best and brightest in art and photography composition with the annual Iowa Central Community College Spring Show.

The event runs from April 21-May 1, according to Rochelle Green, professor of photography and digital arts.

“As a faculty, we look very forward to the fall and spring shows,” Green said. “They’re both a great way to celebrate the semester end and the tremendous work the students have put in.”

Green and her colleagues are planning on 100-plus submissions inside the campus’ Art and Technology building.

“We’re so thankful for this new space,” she said. “It was renovated from a former administration building. It provides a fluid area for more people to see what we are working on and even makes those submissions interactive.”

The May 1 culmination includes a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with music provided by Jared Benson, a local artist, and appetizers prepared by the campus’ culinary sciences department. At 6 p.m. that evening, Tim Adams, a local professional who designed a sculpture that is housed inside the building, will make his award announcements for the top four places in photography, graphic design, 2D design, 3D design, and painting.

“It’s wonderful having our administration be so supportive so we can put on an event like this twice a year,” Green said. “We’re also thankful for the work that Shelly Bottorff from the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association does in getting the music and Mr. Adams’ services as a juror set up.”

The arts and technology department at Iowa Central Community College has had a long history of success. It includes a former director of the Clear Lake Art Museum and several local and regional sculptors and painters who have their work displayed in various exhibitions.

“Our current team of myself, Jennifer Dutcher, Michael Baird and Jake Zweibohmer have benefited from professors before, including Maureen Seamonds, Rusty Farrington and Howard Haase,” Green said. “Due to what they began, we’ve seen what great instruction can lead to, and we want to continue that tradition.”

Show hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday over the two-week run.
