Condon receives DAISY Award
Briley Condon, a registered nurse in Surgery, received the DAISY Award at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. She received three nominations from patients for the care she provided during each of their procedures.
“From the moment Briley walked in to get me prepped, she was very welcoming and thoroughly explained everything to me,” the first patient said. “I was scared to have my procedure done and had left for the holding room before my other half came back. Briley brought him to the holding room, where I was able to relax some. When I got back from surgery, she took great care of me.”
Another patient described a time where Condon took care of her pre- and post-op for a nose fracture surgery.
“Briley was friendly and had conversations like she was a friend or a sister. She did a great job explaining each and every step, so I knew what to expect,” the patient said. “Briley even asked if I could get my IV in the OR after I was sleepy, because this was what made me the most nervous about the procedure. I am considering being a nurse someday and hope I can be just as amazing to others as Briley was to me.”
A third patient described Condon as “polite, pleasant and genuinely caring.”
Condon was honored during a celebration with her family and team members. She received a certificate, pin and sculpture.
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was formed in January 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease. His family wanted to say, thank you to nurses by everywhere by establishing a recognition program — The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses — to “honor the super-human work nurses do every day at the bedside.”
The DAISY Award is a merit-based award that honors clinical skill, leadership, strong patient care and compassion.
