Joe Ruge, a guest assistant in Volunteer & Guest Services, was named the December Employee of the Month at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Ruge was nominated by Alison Hanna, manager of Volunteer & Guest Services, who says he is adept at foreseeing a need and is always there in that moment to help out.

“Whether it’s hopping in the courtesy shuttle to pick up a patient who may be struggling in the parking lot or assisting a patient or guests to their location when a volunteer isn’t available, Joe is ready to help at a moment’s notice and always does so with kindness and a smile,” Hanna said. “His default position is to be of service to our guests and patients and he always starts the day in a positive and happy way.”

Hanna says Ruge always comes to work prepared and puts his best self forward in everything he does.

“Joe volunteers at Trinity on his days off, picks up Thursday shifts for medication transport for Trinity Pharmacy, and volunteers at community events to support our organization,” Hanna said. “He seizes opportunities and is everywhere, doing all things, to help make our team great.”
