Humane Society of North Central Iowa volunteer Patti Holmes, holding Willy, a Chihuahua mix dog, looks over the flooded floor of the shelter’s laundry room. With melting snow and recent rains, the waters were beginning to come inside the shelter in the 2400 block of Fifth Avenue South. Mary Ann Foster, manager at the Humane Society, said since their ground is much lower than the land around it, the flooding is typical when spring rolls around. They keep the food off of the floor and if the water starts getting too high, Foster said they would make arrangements for the animals.

Starting at $2.99/week.
