David Scott has enjoyed a seamless transition from the professional home he’s always known into a lead role at the Webster City Hy-Vee Grocery Store.

The 44-year-old Scott spent nearly 25 full years working for his hometown Hy-Vee in Fort Dodge. Last month, Scott officially became store manager at the Webster City location 20 miles to the east.

Scott credits both the company’s core tenets and the warmth of his new community for settling in so quickly.

“The Webster City store has been great,” said Scott, a 1999 Fort Dodge Senior High graduate. “The employees have a passion for good customer service. They’re extremely dedicated to the success of both the Hy-Vee store and their town.

“The customers have been wonderful. Very friendly.”

Scott was hired as a part-time employee three months after he finished high school, and worked his way up to manager of store operations in Fort Dodge. His wife, Jodi, has also been a part of the Hy-Vee family for 17 years. She currently serves as the deli manager at the Fort Dodge location.

“I’m extremely thankful to work for a company that allows you to make the best decisions for the towns we operate in,” Scott said. “I’ve been with Hy-Vee for 25 years and it’s been the greatest experience of my professional life.

“Hy-Vee has the most basic fundamentals in customer service … we are always striving to give our customers a great experience.”

Lindsey Flanigan, the store director at the Fort Dodge store, called Scott “everything that makes up a great Hy-Vee employee.”

“David’s number one priority is always taking care of the customer, which he does with a helpful smile and passion to please,” Flanigan said. “He is loyal and treats employees like they are his own family.
