EAGLE GROVE – Marcos F. Castaneda has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot an Eagle Grove man Sunday night.

It’s alleged that Castaneda, 21, of Whittemore, pulled up to Hugo B. Salinas, 26, of Eagle Grove, in the 100 block of North Lucas Avenue in Eagle Grove Sunday.

According to Capt. Josh Kuisle, of the Eagle Grove Police Department, Castaneda allegedly got out of his vehicle and shot Salinas before then shooting himself.

Both men were taken to area hospitals before being transferred to Des Moines for further treatment.

Castaneda is in an undisclosed secured facility, Kuisle said, adding that he did not have the conditions of either Castaneda or Salinas.

The Eagle Grove Police Department was assisted by the Wright County sheriffs office, Iowa State Patrol, Clarion EMS, Eagle Grove EMS, the Eagle Grove Fire Department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
