Land added to Urban Renewal Plan
Webster Co. supervisors approve plan unanimously
New sections of land were added to the Webster County Urban Renewal Plan Tuesday morning by the Board of Supervisors.
The amendment to the plan was approved unanimously, with the exception of Supervisor Nick Carlson, who was absent.
Three portions of land were added to the plan, including the portion of Calcium Products property where the company is building a new production facility on 40 acres across the road from the current facility on Webster County Road P59 on the southeast edge of Fort Dodge.
Also added is the land downtown at the west end of Central Avenue that will be home to the planned nature center that will be located along the Des Moines River.
The last portion of land added to the renewal plan is a handful of sections of roads.
County Auditor Doreen Pliner said, “That’s the road to connect us out to the ag park where we have an urban renewal area now, so we’re connecting it all together because we’re planning on using some of the TIF funds out there to pay for the Conservation Center.”
TIF stands for tax increment financing. That occurs when increased property tax revenue from a designated area is set aside to be reinvested in that area.
The initial resolution that established the Webster County Regional Urban Renewal Plan was adopted on May 29, 2007.
The plan explains what it means for an area of land to be added to the plan.
It states, “The rehabilitation, conservation, redevelopment, or a combination thereof of such area is necessary in the interest of the public health, safety, or welfare of the residents of the county, designating such area as appropriate for urban renewal projects.”
