Fatal shooting suspect remains at large
Local law enforcement are still looking for a teenager they say shot and killed a man in downtown Fort Dodge on Tuesday evening.
Davonquae Jyshon “D.J.” Pettigrew, of Fort Dodge, is wanted for first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Pettigrew is a 17-year-old Black male, is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. According to police, he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Pettigrew’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact law enforcement at 515-573-2323. Webster County Crime Stoppers has offered a $500 reward for information that leads to Pettigrew’s arrest.
Pettigrew is wanted for the shooting death of 18-year-old Patrick Walker, of Fort Dodge. Walker was shot and killed in the 100 block of North 10th Street on Tuesday evening. As law enforcement investigated the scene, a second gunshot victim was reported at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. Law enforcement determined the two incidents were related and the second victim was identified as 20-year-old Silas Hall. According to a FDPD release, Hall’s wound is not believed to be life-threatening.
According to Iowa Court records, Pettigrew pleaded guilty to a simple misdemeanor of interference with official acts in January. It does not appear he has any other convictions on his record.
On Thursday, an alleged accomplice was arrested and charged in connection with Tuesday’s shooting. Haydin Ranee Mapel, 16, of Fort Dodge, is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder, as well as aiding and abetting attempted murder.
As of Friday, court records don’t indicate what Mapel’s role was in the shooting.
Mapel had her initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court this morning. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 15. She is being held on a $1.3 million cash bond.
