Hospital merger falls through
UnityPoint Health, Presbyterian Healthcare Services no longer pursuing partnership; New CEO named for UnityPoint Health
UnityPoint Health, which owns Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, has ended merger talks with a New Mexico based health care company, it was announced Wednesday.
Earlier this year, UnityPoint Health and Presbyterian Healthcare Services announced their intent to form a new health care company. After significant planning and consideration, the two organizations will no longer be pursuing the transaction, according to a statement from UnityPoint Health.
“We believe this decision allows us to better meet the needs of our patients, team members, communities, and key stakeholders,” said Sally Gray, chairwoman of UnityPoint Health. “As we move forward, UnityPoint Health is focused on identifying new, innovative ways to deliver low-cost, high-quality care to those we serve.”
As a result, Clay Holderman, the president and chief executive officer of UnityPoint Health, will depart to explore other professional opportunities.
The UnityPoint Health Board of Directors has named Scott Kizer as the new president and CEO.
“We’re confident in Scott’s leadership going forward, and we remain committed to showing our people, patients and communities how much they matter,” said Gray.
In March, the two health care systems announced that they had signed a letter of intent to explore the formation of a new organization. Reducing administrative costs while investing in patient care was the stated goal of the effort.
