Estherville woman sentenced to federal prison for gun charge
SIOUX CITY — An Estherville woman was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm last fall.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, Jodeci Holmes, 22, of Estherville, was a passenger in a vehicle on April 1, 2023, when a traffic stop was conducted by law enforcement. The vehicle was searched after the officer smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
During the search, the officer found marijuana and a 9mm pistol belonging to Holmes. According to the release, as Holmes was a marijuana user and a convicted felon, she is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Holmes pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 21, 2023, and was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand.
Following her 30 months in prison, Holmes must also serve three years of supervised release. She remains in custody of the United States Marshal until she can be transported to a federal prison.
