FD native appointed to bench in Cedar Rapids

Fisher will be district court judge

A Fort Dodge native has been appointed to serve as a district court judge in the judicial district that includes Cedar Rapids.

Mark D. Fisher, an attorney and magistrate, is the son of Monty and Deborah Fisher, of Fort Dodge. Monty Fisher is an attorney who served as Webster County attorney from 1979 to 1982.

Gov. Kim Reynolds appointed Mark Fisher to the bench on Feb. 21. He will take office later this month, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of another judge.

The Cedar Rapids resident will serve in Iowa’s Sixth Judicial District, which includes Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Tama counties.

He earned an associate degree in business administration from Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, then earned a bachelor’s degree in justice studies from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He graduated from the University of Iowa School of Law in 2007.

Mark Fisher has been a private practice attorney since 2007 and has been a magistrate for the last five years.

He and his wife have three children.
