Fort Dodge teen driver dies in accident

Teen lost control, hit a tree

A Fort Dodge teen was killed in an accident late Tuesday evening when the car she was driving slammed into a tree in Loomis Park.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 16-year-old Leah Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Trooper Joshua Missman stated in his report that Lynch was traveling through the city’s park when she lost control and struck a tree. Lynch was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A 16-year-old passenger in the vehicle was transported by LIfeFlight to MercyOne in Des Moines. A second passenger, also 16-years-old, was treated and released at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Dodge Police Department and Fort Dodge Fire and EMS all assisted at the scene.
