Mark and Kim Peterson, of Harcourt, will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame on Aug. 18 at the Iowa State Fair.

HARCOURT — Mark and Kim Peterson, of Harcourt, have been involved in 4-H for most of their lives, both as students and as leaders. On Aug. 18, the couple will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair for their decades of involvement and stewardship.

“Mark and Kim continue to be supporters of Extension as Mark attends ag programs and Kim will judge 4-H exhibits at fairs,” said Linda Cline, Webster County program coordinator for Iowa State University Extension

“As chairman of the Extension Council, Mark supported staff and programming for the county,” she added. “Kim served on the Youth Committee and attended meetings with county council members as they planned fair events and leadership activities along with taking time to review scholarships, conduct interviews and review record books for awards. They both encouraged 4-H members to go above and beyond. Both of them are valued for their time served and greatly appreciated by staff.”

Both Mark and Kim Peterson are former 4-H members from Hancock and Webster counties. She was a youth committee member for 11 years and, according to Cline, served at the county fair, awards banquet, and was an area trip chaperone. As a youth 4-H member with the Hancock County Concord Chicks, she took sewing and baking projects to the fair, attended Citizenship Washington Focus, volunteered at the state fair, and was a summer fair intern.

He served as an elected member of the Webster County Extension Council for four years, and also chaperoned an area trip. As a youth 4-H member, Mark was a member of the Burnside Promoters 4-H Club and took both beef and swine to fair.

Mark and Kim Peterson both passed on their appreciation of 4-H to their daughters, Abby and Hannah, who were also nine-year Webster County 4-H members.

“We are honored to recognize these special individuals, for their advocacy and dedication to the Iowa 4-H program,” said Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director Emily Saveraid.

“This is a great way to honor the volunteers and staff across the state of Iowa that generously give their time and talents to foster positive partnerships with our 4-H youth,” said Tillie Good, Iowa 4-H staff and volunteer development manager.

The Petersons will be inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair at 3:30 pm on Aug. 18 in the 4-H Exhibit Building.
