One killed, one injured in Greene Co. crash
CHURDAN — One man was killed Saturday night when the vehicle he was driving went off a rural Greene County road and flipped over several times.
The Iowa State Patrol identified him as Kyle Shank, 31, of Paton.
A passenger in the vehicle, Sydney Shank, 30, of Paton, was injured and taken to Greene County Hospital, the State Patrol reported.
According to troopers, the crash happened at 10:08 p.m. Saturday on 130th Street, about 1,000 feet west of P Avenue. Kyle Shank was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 eastbound and attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle at a high rate of speed.
His vehicle went off the north side of the road, went into the ditch, hit a field drive and went airborne, the State Patrol reported. It then rolled several times before coming to rest in a cornfield.
Kyle Shanks was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to troopers. Sydney Shanks was wearing a seatbelt.
