HARCOURT — The tables were set and decorated last weekend for Faith Lutheran Church’s 23rd annual A Table Affair event.

The church sanctuary was standing room only for the event, which raised money for area charities.

“It’s a fun gathering of ladies, kicking off the holidays,’ said Jane Klingson-Morlan, who decorated a table.

Fourteen tables were set with a variety of themes including sweater weather, chickens, cookie jar memories, and even peacocks.

Maddi Heun created a table setting that included many of the unique items that she, her husband, and daughter have found in the woods near their home. ‘Autumn Woods,’ Heun said, is a table setting for gathering and growing together.

“Usually I have an inspiration, this year it was a turquoise crocheted table cloth I had purchased at a second hand store,” said Klingson-Morlan, whose table theme was “Cowboy Up, Santa.”

Klingson-Morlan’s table was decorated in turquoise and red which are the colors she uses to decorate her home at the holidays.

“It’s a perfect fit,” said Klingson-Morlan. “I have collected the cowboy Santas over the years, each has a special meaning to me.”

Maddi Heun decorated an autumnal themed table for the annual event. “Autumn Woods” included decorations that she, her husband, and daughter have found in the woods around their home.

“My dining room table at home is decorated everyday and I change the design frequently,” said Heun. “In fact, I just took the decorations off of my table and home, packed them up, and brought them to the church. Gabe and Lucy helped me put the table together and when I was finished Lucy said ‘Mom it looks like our dining room table at home.’ I felt that God’s given me a joy for decorating so I want to use it for good. If there’s an opportunity to raise money for a church or for our community, I love to be involved.”

Tables at the event were also decorated by Linda White, Carolyn Ross, June Sankey, Michelle Cummins, Jenessa Christensen, Patty Grossnickle, Cheryl Meyer, Joanne Nemechek-Ekstrom, Rod Meyer, Julie Loehr, Phil Sporleder, Courtney Sogard, Becky Blair, and Joan Peterson.

A Table Affair raised more than $1,400 for area charities including Beacon of Hope, Lutheran Lakeside, Southwest Webster Emergency Medical Service, Harcourt Fire Department, Dayton Rescue Squad, The Salvation Army, the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Camp Courageous, Coats for Kids, United Way, and the Dayton and Gowrie food pantries.

Starting at $2.99/week.
