Humboldt man arrested on federal charges
Nickless evaded law enforcement for more than a month
HUMBOLDT — A Humboldt County man wanted by federal authorities was arrested Wednesday following a nearly month-long search.
Nathan Nickless, 39, was wanted on federal drug and weapons charges as well as state charges related to a vehicle pursuit in Pocahontas County in July 2024.
Federal authorities began searching for Nickless in early September when he failed to appear for his trial date.
On Sept. 28, a Humboldt County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be driven by Nickless. He failed to stop for the deputy and led law enforcement on a pursuit through Humboldt until abandoning his vehicle and escaping on foot.
According to Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger, on Wednesday, multiple law enforcement agencies conducted an exhaustive search at multiple locations throughout the Humboldt area. At approximately 2 p.m., officers found Nickless hiding in an upstairs closet at his last known residence, 110 Fifth St. N. in Dakota City. He was arrested without incident and transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and transported to Sioux City where he will remain until his initial appearance.
As a result of the investigation, Jessica Nelson, 42, also of 110 Fifth St. N in Dakota City, was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact and interference with official acts. Nelson was placed in the Humboldt County Jail where she will remain until her initial appearance before the magistrate.
The United States Marshals Service, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa State Patrol, and the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
