Pumpkins and Ponies will provide fun on the farm

19th annual event set for this weekend

HUMBOLDT — The 19th annual Pumpkins and Ponies event this weekend will enable people to escape from clocks, calendars and screens to spend a fall day on a farm.

As the name implies, the two-day festival offers a chance to pick a pumpkin and ride a pony. The Dragonfire Dancing Horses drill team will perform. There will also be live music, vendors offering various products, and food.

“It’s a harvest of smiles,” said Lonnie Larson, whose family hosts Pumpkins and Ponies on its Springvale Farm in Humboldt County.

Pumpkins and Ponies will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday on the farm at 2603 Lone Tree Road in Humboldt County.

Admission and parking are free.

Larson said that at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday there will be an opening ceremony, which is a salute to the armed forces and first responders.

“The hallmark of the day is the ride to the pumpkin patch,” she said.

She added that eight ponies are being brought to the farm from Nebraska to provide pony rides each day.

The Dragonfire Dancing Horses is a mounted drill team from Hampton. It features costumed riders on 10 horses.

“It’s really a cute show,” Larson said.

“They are a major part of the opening ceremonies,” she added.

Live music will be performed by the Nedd Freeley Funn Band on Saturday and Bad to the Bone on Sunday.

Larson said 20 vendors are expected for Pumpkins and Ponies.

Food available at the event will include ribeye steak sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chili dogs, carmel apples and all kinds of pies.
