Woman dies after being struck by a vehicle in FD

Drew once operated Chinese restaurant

A woman who was struck by a vehicle Friday morning in Fort Dodge died Saturday morning in a Des Moines hospital.

Wen Hsing Drew, 72, of Fort Dodge, died, according to obituary information released by Brooks Funeral Care and everloved.com.

She was a native of Taiwan who immigrated to the United States in 1980, according to the obituary. In Fort Dodge, she was involved in the operation and ownership of the Sea Dragon Chinese Restaurant until it closed in 1997. She then started working for Hy-Vee and became Chinese Department manager for multiple stores. She retired from Hy-Vee in 2015.

Her funeral service is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Lighthouse Ministries, 1333 Fourth Ave. N.

Drew was struck by a vehicle as she was walking across 29th Street near its intersection with Sixth Avenue North, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Troopers reported that she was walking from the west side of the road to the east side when she was hit by a southbound 2023 Ford Bronco operated by Amanda K. Lawler, 36, of Fort Dodge. According to the State Patrol, Lawler was driving west on Sixth Avenue North, stopped at the stop sign and then turned south onto 29th Street, striking Drew.
