Woman hit by SUV is seriously injured

She was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital

A woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle Friday morning in Fort Dodge.

Wen Hsing Drew, 72, of Fort Dodge, was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The State Patrol reported that she was walking across 29th Street just south of Sixth Avenue North when she was struck by a 2023 Ford Bronco operated by Amanda K. Lawler, 36, of Fort Dodge.

The incident happened at 7:53 a.m.

Troopers reported that Lawler was driving west on Sixth Avenue North. They reported that she stopped at the stop sign, then turned left to go south on 29th Street. At the same time, Drew was crossing 29th Street from west to east. The front of the Bronco hit Drew and threw her forward.

The Fort Dodge police and fire departments responded along with state troopers.
