Event offers chance to spark ‘creative passion’
FD Fine Arts to host second arts and crafts supply swap
Creating new opportunities for creative discoveries and hobbies is the goal of the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association’s second Arts and Craft Supply Swap.
The event, scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Soldier Creek Winery, 1584 Paragon Ave., will allow area crafters to sell, trade, or swap new and gently used arts and craft supplies.
“This is a perfect opportunity to discover tools and supplies for your current hobbies or spark a new creative passion,” said Shelly Bottorff, executive director of the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association.
According to Bottorff, all supplies brought to the event must be new or gently used arts and crafts materials. Any items that are broken, missing pieces, paint or brushes that are dried up, leaking or unusable will not be accepted. Spray paint or any aerosols, as well as toxic or flammable supplies, will also not be accepted. Fabric that is dirty, torn, stained, moldy, or contains odor will not be allowed at the event.
“When in doubt, ask yourself, ‘Would I give this item to my best friend or to a local student art club?'” said Bottorff.
The first ever Arts and Craft Supply Swap happened in September and was well attended by both vendors and attendees.
“The last art swap went great for our first time,” said Bottorff. “The winery is the perfect spot to hold this event. Several vendors at the first swap had the most beautiful, brand new yarn for discounted prices. There were several new art kits, supplies, and gently used supplies for people to pick from.”
To secure a table for the event, crafters are required to email Bottorff at fdfinearts@gmail.com. Residents wanting to shop at the event will be asked to pay a $5 entry fee. Vendors wanting to sell, swap, and shop at the event will be asked to pay $20.
All proceeds from the art supply swap will go toward the operating expenses for the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association.
