FD school board updated on elementary school programs
A path to stronger literacy success, mastery of grade-level social skills and improved attendance numbers were among the topics brought forward by Cooper and Butler Elementary schools’ leadership at the Monday meeting of the Fort Dodge Community School District board.
Cooper Elementary School Principal Kate Simpson discussed reading and foundational grade level skills equaled and grade-level social emotional skills met by the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Butler Elementary School Principal Jessica Kruckenberg talked about a similar goal in literacy while also speaking about increasing attendance to 95 percent.
Both principals pointed to usage of the Character Strong curriculum as part of the process.
“We’ve really enjoyed digging into it and the rest of the district curriculum,” Simpson said.
The meeting was also highlighted by the formal appointment and swearing in of Dan Altman as board president and Diane Pratt as board vice-president.
In action items, the board approved:
• A change order for the Dodger Stadium remodel project at a cost of $75,429.56. Seven items were part of the order according to district Maintenance Director Ryan Utley. The top sections included changing items in the locker room by adding a washer and dryer, taking out a concrete bench, reconfiguring how lockers sit on the floor and lighting upgrades, along with card access to the south side of the stadium for different event and team access.
• A revision of school nutrition program notices of Nondiscrimination dealing with keeping compliant with the United States Department of Agriculture.
