Fire ravages house in Lehigh
No one injured
LEHIGH — A vacant house in Lehigh was destroyed by fire Monday.
The fire at 442 Spencer Hill St. was first reported at about 5 a.m. Firefighters had to go back to the scene two more times later Monday when flames rekindled.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived early Monday morning, according to Lehigh Fire Chief Aaron Morris.
He said firefighters immediately went to work with two hoselines: one to extinguish the flames and one to protect the house next door from the heat. Water had to be brought to the scene in tanker trucks.
No one was injured.
Firefighters were on scene for about three hours. They had to return to the house at about 10 a.m. and at about 2:30 p.m. to douse rekindled flames.
Morris said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The two-story frame house is owned by the Kenneth and Betty Twito estate, according to online records of the Webster County Assessor’s Office. Morris said he believes it has been vacant for two or three years.
Firefighters from Lehigh, Dayton and Duncombe responded.
