Fort Dodge senator picked for leadership role
Kraayenbrink to be assistant majority leader
State Sen. Tim Kraayenbrink, of Fort Dodge, has been chosen by his fellow Republican senators as an assistant majority leader.
He was elected by the Republican senators this week as they prepared for the 2025 legislative session.
“I think the biggest part of the job will be to convey the wishes of the caucus up to the leader, Jack Whitver, and also to convey stuff down to the caucus from Jack,” he said Thursday evening.
State Sen. Jack Whitver, R-Grimes, is the Iowa Senate majority leader.
Kraayenbrink said he sought election to an assistant majority leader position in this week’s Republican meetings.
“I just felt it was time for me to step up and be a leader in our caucus,” he said.
“I am honored that my colleagues in the Senate Republican caucus voted for me to be an assistant majority leader,” he added. “I do not take this role lightly and am looking forward to assisting our members as we work on our agenda for 2025 and work together to find solutions for Iowans and their families.”
Kraayenbrink has been a senator since 2015, and was re-elected last week.
He is one of four assistant majority leaders.
The senator said he expects to retain his position as the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee when the legislature convenes in January, but some of his other committee assignments may change. He is a member of the Education, Government Oversight and State Government committees.
