Man arrested in 2023 store shooting
Crooks faces long list of charges
One of two accused gunmen involved in a 2023 shooting at a Fort Dodge convenience store that injured two other men is now in the Webster County Jail.
Keeshaun J. Crooks, 21, of 1419 Fifth Ave. N., had been arrested by police in Chicago in the summer of 2023 on unrelated charges. He was recently turned over to Webster County authorities and made his initial appearance in magistrate court Thursday morning.
The shooting at Star Convenience, 1601 Fifth Ave. S., is not the only case in which he faces charges, according to court records. He is also charged with multiple offenses for reportedly forcing his way into a house, breaking multiple items and hurting the people in the house.
Crooks is being held in the Webster County Jail on a $145,000 cash only bond.
The shootout was reported at 9:21 p.m. March 7, 2023, when Webster County 911 dispatchers received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area of the convenience store.
One of the two people injured in the exchange of gunfire was found at Domino’s Pizza, 1430 Fifth Ave. S. The other was found in a pickup truck in the 500 block of South 16th Street. The driver of the pickup was described by police as a good Samaritan who was trying to help the injured man. Both victims were taken by ambulance to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Two large windows in the front of the store were shattered by the gunfire.
Crooks and Eadon Long, of Fort Dodge, were quickly identified as suspects in the shooting and arrest warrants were issued for them.
Crooks was arrested in Chicago in June 2023 on unrelated firearms, narcotics and assault charges.
In connection with the Fort Dodge convenience store shooting, Crooks has been charged with:
• Two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon
• Intimidation with a dangerous weapon
• Willful injury causing serious injury
• Going armed with intent
• Dominion/control of a firearm by a felon
According to the criminal complaints filed against him, Crooks fired a handgun into the convenience store.

The second incident Crooks faces charges for happened at 9:30 p.m. March 5, 2023, According to criminal complaints, he forced his way into a house in the 1600 block of 8 Ç Avenue North, broke some things and assaulted people in the house.
In that case, he is charged with:
• First degree burglary
• Second degree criminal mischief
• Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon
• Two counts of assault
• Obstruction of emergency communications
He faces a preliminary hearing on Dec. 2.
