Water main work set for northwest Fort Dodge

The northwest side of Fort Dodge will be the site of some extensive water main work next year.

The City Council on Monday awarded a contract for extending a new water line west from a point near the Des Moines River to the Elanco plant on Fifth Street Northwest.

Chad Schaeffer, the city’s chief development officer, said it will be the final leg of a water main loop to serve Elanco, which makes veterinary medicines.

The project will involve some street repairs, he added.

All the work is expected to be done by August 2025.

The council hired Wynn Co. LLC, of Warsaw, Illinois, to do the work at a cost of $660,480.

Schaeffer said the company had recently done some work in Algona and Corwith. He said the engineers on those projects reported that the company did a good job.

Other bidders for the project were Doyle Construction, of Fort Dodge, $709,732.50; Max Smith Construction, of Creston, $806,000; Rasch Construction Inc., of Fort Dodge, $849,360; On Track Construction, of Nevada, $879,900; King Contracting, of Wall Lake, $956,837; Riley-Armstong Plumbing & Heating, of Fort Dodge, $808,686.59; and GM Contracting, of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, $843,243.58.

Starting at $2.99/week.
