Water, sewer increases on FD City Council agenda again tonight
The second reading of proposed increases in monthly water and sewer bills will be held tonight during the Fort Dodge City Council meeting.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.
Under the proposal, the water bills for average residential customers would go up $2.12 per month on Jan. 1.
Sanitary sewer bills for average residential customers would go up $1.33 per month on Jan. 1.
Both of those bills would go up by similar amounts on Jan. 1, 2026.
City Manager David Fierke said the increases are necessary to help “operational revenue keep up with operational expenses.”
Deciding not to raise the rates now would result in a larger rate increase in the future, he told the council.
The increases must be approved three times to become law. The council approved them unanimously on the first vote during its Nov. 18 meeting.
Also tonight, the council will consider the second reading of a measure closing down a tax increment financing district because it has reached its 20-year legal life span.
The council will also consider awarding a contract for a water main connection to the Elanco plant on the city’s northwest side. Wynn Co., of Warsaw, Illinois, submitted the apparent low bid of about $660,000.
