Beacon of Hope shelter seeks funding

Shelter provides vital services for its homeless community

As the end of the year approaches, Beacon of Hope Shelter is reaching out to the community for funding to support essential services for the homeless population.

The shelter, which provides a haven and place of restoration and recovery for area men experiencing homelessness, has seen a significant increase in demand over the past year. Unfortunately, rising costs have hampered its ability to serve these individuals.

“Every day, we provide meals, warmth, and a path toward restoration for our guests,” said Brian Bidleman, the Beacon’s executive director. “As of now, we are almost $17,000 behind last year in our current funding needs.”

The funds needed will be directed toward maintaining shelter operations, including staffing, utilities, and essential supplies such as food and blankets.

“We believe that everyone deserves a second chance, especially during the harsh winter months,” added Bidleman. “We urge community members, local businesses, and organizations to consider making a charitable donation by Dec. 31 to help us continue our mission.”

Beacon of Hope Shelter is a registered nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for over a decade. Last year alone, it provided about 35,000 meals and 13,000 bed nights of shelter to homeless individuals, ensuring that they had a safe place to stay and the resources they needed to rebuild their lives.

“The Beacon has always been funded solely on private donations,” Bidleman said. “We would ask you to consider supporting this local mission, whether it be a one-time, monthly, or year-end gift. Just know that the Beacon continues to serve the homeless, hungry, and hurting men of our community. The mission to share the love of Jesus will not change, plus 100 percent of your donations stay here at home.”

Donations can be made at www.beaconofhopeshelter.com or mailed or brought to 1021 First Ave. N, Fort Dodge, IA 50501.

Starting at $2.99/week.
