Dryer ignites in laundry business
A fire in a large dryer at a laundry facility in Fort Dodge sent black smoke billowing from the building Tuesday morning.
The fire was contained to the dryer in the BestCo. Services building at 1028 S. 22nd St., and no one was injured.
The fire was reported at 7:17 a.m. Firefighters found black smoke coming from around a garage door, according to Fire Department Capt. Jeff Hill.
He said firefighters took a hoseline inside and found a commercial size dryer burning in the back corner of the building. The dryer was completely burned up, and there was smoke damage throughout the building. An attached building that houses Southside Martial Arts also received some smoke damage, he said.
According to Hill, an employee came to work Tuesday morning, started the dryer and then left. When another employee came to work later, they opened the back door and found the building completely full of smoke extending from the floor to the ceiling, according to Hill.
Firefighters and police were on the scene until about 8 a.m.
