Fort Dodge Community Schools name students, employee of month for November
The Fort Dodge Community School District has named the November 2024 Students and Employee of the Month Honorees. This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school, and one high school student, as well as one staff member, monthly for exceeding expectations.
Everly Burns is the Elementary Student of the Month. Everly attends Feelhaver Elementary.
Angie Utley nominated Burns, writing, “Everly is willing to help anyone. She is kind to all of the students in our class. I can ask her to work with any partner or any group and she will succeed. I can trust her to make good choices in all areas of our school. Everly is always positive. She approaches everything with a great attitude and she’s always willing to try new things. I appreciate her kindness toward others. She makes others smile each day.”
Camillo Villanueva is the Middle School Student of the Month.
The 7 Plum team nominated Villanueva. In their nomination, they wrote, “Camillo was recognized by his classmates for his leadership qualities in class. He is kind to everyone and uses his talents to help the class. He is willing to work with everyone and is accepting of all students. Camillo is a superior student. He is a hard worker and leads discussions. He is a quick learner and always willing to participate.”
Conrad Greathouse and Madden Bailey are the Senior High Students of the Month.
Derek Haugland nominated both students, writing, “This nomination is the result of an extracurricular volunteer effort that two students, Conrad and Madden, took on this fall. As a current board member with the Fort Dodge Soccer Association, I encountered firsthand how our organization struggled to find volunteer coaches for the season … Our U10 boys program was especially impacted, left without a coach last minute and facing the possibility that 10 young players wouldn’t be able to participate after already starting the season. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t find any volunteer to take on the role, and our board was already stretched too thin to take on an additional team.
“Then, a casual conversation with Conrad turned into a spark of hope. Conrad mentioned he’d be interested in helping out, and what followed was fate. …They immediately set up a group messaging system with parents, organized a weekly practice schedule, and committed time each week to ensure the team could get the best soccer experience possible. Balancing this with cross-country practice, homework, meets, jobs, and the usual demands of high school life, they never once complained. They simply showed up for the kids, putting in the work without expecting anything in return.
“With no personal connections to any players or families, they took on this role purely out of a desire to help others and share their love for the game. They coached a full six-week season with minimal oversight from our already-stretched board members, showing remarkable maturity and initiative. Watching them interact with the kids each Saturday, encouraging them, modeling leadership, and celebrating their accomplishments was a true privilege. They gave up every Saturday morning for six weeks to be there for these kids, our program, and our community.
“Their commitment, leadership, and willingness to step up when it mattered most reminded me that kids these days are doing extraordinary, meaningful things — things that provide for our community and inspire those around them. Thanks to them, I’m reminded that our future is in good hands and I cannot wait to see what they accomplish in the future. “
Curtis Bell is the Employee of the Month.
The Early Childhood Center nominated Curtis, writing, “Mr. Bell not only keeps our building in pristine condition, but he goes above and beyond with the students in our building. We say he is the most famous person in our entire building. He is there in the morning to greet each student with a smile and friendly hello. He gets to know each of our students and makes them feel at home everyday. Curtis works with students who may need a little extra love. You can find Curtis out and about in the building … sometimes with a sidekick or two that he is helping to teach kindness, responsibility, and the importance of working hard. The love and kindness he gives to kids is unmatched. We are very lucky to have him as part of our ECC family.”
