Iowa Central's Webster City campus has something for everyone
New Year, better you.
Whether you are a high school student or an older adult in search of a new start, Iowa Central’s Webster City campus has something for everyone. The Webster City campus has offered a wide range of programs since its inception in 1968 and has been an indispensable resource for the community ever since.
Today, the campus offers a multitude of courses, programs and non-credit classes that are taught by Iowa Central faculty. Additionally, the course content and resources available to students are identical to those offered on the main campus in Fort Dodge.
So, what can you study on the Webster City campus?
First up, if you are a high school student, there are three options: Hamilton High is an alternative to traditional high school with a hybrid curriculum of self-paced, online study blended with in-class lectures.
Second, through a partnership with Webster City High School, juniors and seniors and, at times, freshmen and sophomores, can take a variety of general education classes such as electives and prerequisite classes. There are approximately 120 high school students taking advantage of the program this year.
Webster City students also travel to Fort Dodge’s Triton Academy and Eagle Grove’s North Central Regional Center for classes.
Third, for students in grades nine through 12, an array of online classes are available. On average, Webster City High School students who are dual-enrolled earn an average of 20 college credits before graduation from high school.
Are you an adult learner who has never finished high school?
Iowa Central has you covered. With free high school equivalency classes, students can earn their GED at their own pace using computerized curriculum, along with textbooks and teachers who are ready to help you succeed. Once completed, students can enroll in any Iowa Central courses or degree programs.
Are you an adult learner who has limited English skills?
Iowa Central teaches English as a second language with both beginner and advanced classes using the most up-to-date techniques and curriculum to help students become fluent in English.
The current flagship program on campus is the nursing program. Accredited by the Iowa State Board of Nursing, the program is full this year with 60 students enrolled; they come from Des Moines, Story City, Waterloo and Cedar Falls. Students can choose between the one-year LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) program or two-year RN (Registered Nurse) program. Students completing their study at Iowa Central have a 95% pass rate on the state board exam.
The Webster City campus also offers non-credit classes such as CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) training, paraeducator certification, medical billing and coding classes, computer classes and CEU’s (Continuing Education Unit) for electricians.
Courses change as the needs of the community change and Iowa Central is open to new ideas, according to Collette Bertran, site director. With the spring semester starting Jan. 13, now is the time to try something new.
