Williamson returns for 20th concert
Singer will perform annual Christmas show
Gathering together to hear the music of Christian singer Jennie Williamson is a Christmas tradition for many families in the Fort Dodge area.
Williamson will return on Saturday to perform a mixture of traditional Christmas favorites like “Joy to the World” and some songs she has written such as the recently released “Shalom, Shalom.”
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 400 S. 13th St.
Williamson said her goal at each Christmas concert is to create “a time to come together as a family and really provide an atmosphere of peace.”
She emphasized that the concert is not just for members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
“Anyone and everyone is welcome,” she said. “It is a community-wide event. We want to see an outreach into the community.”
This will be her 20th Christmas concert in Fort Dodge.
But she has a connection to Fort Dodge and St. Paul Lutheran Church that predates that first show. Her husband, Brian Williamson, is a Fort Dodge native who attended St. Paul.
Jennie Williamson has released the “God Is Great” series of seven CDs of Christian music for children. She has sang at many concerts and events across the country.
During Saturday’s concert, she will be joined by the children of St. Paul for some songs.
“It’s so fun to see the kids so excited and singing together,” she said.
She will be playing her new guitar that she calls “Twirly.” And she will sing some new, original songs that she wrote.
“God has really put some special songs on my heart,” she said.
But she will also be singing classic Christmas songs like “Silent Night,” “Joy to the World,” and “Still, Still, Still.”
She said her inspiration for putting together the show is “really what God puts on my heart, first and foremost.”
“Music just speaks to the soul like nothing else,” she said.
