Charges filed in Pomeroy shooting
Investigation continues into shooting, standoff
POMEROY — Criminal charges have been filed following a double shooting in Pomeroy that was followed by a standoff in Manson on Tuesday.
According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Nicholas L. Benedict, 22, was taken into custody following the shooting. Court documents list addresses in Fort Dodge and Rolfe for him.
Two people remain hospitalized with gunshot wounds from the incident. According to the DCI, both are expected to survive their injuries.
Benedict was booked into the Carroll County Jail on charges of:
• Willful injury causing serious injury
• Reckless use of a firearm resulting in serious injury
• Going armed with intent
• Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon
• Obstruction of prosecution.
He is currently being held on $29,000 cash bond. Benedict’s initial appearance is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.Jan. 10 at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and DCI continue to investigate the shooting.
