Fort Dodge parking fine increase advances
Higher fines for parking violations in Fort Dodge came closer to reality Monday.
The City Council unanimously approved the second reading of a measure increasing the fine for a parking violation by $5, from $15 to $20.
The $15 fine has been unchanged since 2011.
Under the proposal advanced by the council, the fine would increase to $30 if it is not paid within 30 days. If it wasn’t paid after 75 days, the ticket would be referred to the county Treasurer’s Office for collection when the vehicle owner pays their registration fee. At that time, the county would add a $5 fee.
The council approved the second reading without discussion.
The increase must be approved once more to become law.
