Humboldt man pleads guilty to sexual exploitation of minor

Flett charged in federal court

HUMBOLDT — A Humboldt man has pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of sexual exploitation of a child.

Paul William Flett, 44, admitted in his plea agreement that he sent links and images of child pornography to underage girls and asked them to send images and videos of themselves to him.

Law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Flett’s home on June 6, 2024. He admitted to officers that he threw his phone in a closet when law enforcement arrived because he knew they were there because of his messages. Forensic analysis of Flett’s iPhone, computer, and Kik account discovered 16 videos and 60 images of child pornography. According to court documents, the images and videos contained material that “portrayed sadistic or masochistic conduct, as well as prepubescent children, infants, and toddlers.”

Flett will be sentenced following a presentencing report. He was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service and remains in custody until sentencing. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a possible maximum sentence of 30 years, a $250,000 fine, and five years of supervised release.
