Dayton home total loss following early morning blaze
No one home at time of fire
DAYTON — A Dayton home is a total loss following an early morning fire Monday.
According to Dayton Fire Chief Luke Hainzinger, the department was dispatched to 302 First St. N.E. at 1:08 a.m.
Firefighters from Stratford and Lehigh, along with the Dayton Rescue Squad were requested. Upon arrival, the home was found to be fully engulfed. No one was home at the time of the fire.
“We were unable to make any interior attack,” said Hainzinger. “Crews made an aggressive exterior attack and were quickly forced to move some hose lines to exposure protection due to the rapid fire progression.”
The volunteer departments fought the fire for four hours.
“I’m very thankful to Stratford Fire, Lehigh Fire, and Dayton EMS for their help this morning,” said Hainzinger. “These selfless men and women got out of bed and left their families in the middle of the night to fight a structure fire for four hours then go home, shower and head off to work.”
Black Hills Energy and the City of Dayton also responded to the fire.
The house is owned by June R. Mumper, according to online records of the Webster County Assessor’s Office. The two-story wood frame house was built in 1900, according to those records.
