FD council rejects raises for mayor, members
Flattery: It's not the right time with a budget deficit
Proposals to raise the salaries of elected officials in Fort Dodge were unanimously rejected by the City Council Monday.
Councilman Dave Flattery said that since the council is working to close a $400,000 deficit in the general fund, now is not the time to be boosting the compensation of elected officials.
The city’s Salary Advisory Review Board, appointed by the council, had recommended raising the salary of the seven council members from $4,800 to $4,900.
Councilman Cameron Nelson said he ran for council to serve the community, and not for the salary.
Councilwoman Lydia Schuur was absent from the otherwise unanimous vote to reject the proposed salary increase.
The Salary Review Advisory Board also recommended raising the mayor’s salary from the current $15,000 to $15,225.
The proposal was rejected by another unanimous vote.
