Loan for elevator will not move forward

Marsh to take on GIS duties

A $100,000 loan request for tax increment financing funding for The Boston Centre’s elevator project will not move forward.

The item was listed on Tuesday’s Webster County Board of Supervisors’ regular meeting agenda, but with lack of a motion from any of the supervisors, the item died and will not be revisited. The board was asked two weeks ago to consider a grant or loan of $100,000 to the owners of the Boston Centre building, 809 Central Ave., to help pay for replacing one of two elevators.

The supervisors also approved a one year lease of the county farm to Iowa Central Community College’s agriculture program.

“Working with the ag department out at Iowa Central has been great,” said Supervisor Austin Hayek. “I went and did some field scouting with them this year just to see how the county farm looks. They’ve been great to work with.”

The supervisors approved Assistant County Engineer Dalton Marsh to take on additional GIS specialist duties. The GIS specialist role was originally based in the engineer’s office, but in recent years was shared by multiple departments. According to current IT and GIS Director Andy McGill, the role includes recording land splits, 911 addressing, fixing boundary lines and subdivisions, assessments, and placing the information into the GIS system. The supervisors approved adding the duties to Marsh’s position. Supervisor John Cochrane was the lone nay vote.

The final pay application for the Badger Trail Project was approved at Tuesday’s meeting.

“As the weather gets nice, get out and hit the trails,” said Hayek.

The board approved a funding agreement for the Gowrie bridge replacement. According to Webster County Engineer Jamie Johll, a grant that he applied for and received will pay for 100 percent of the bridge project. According to Johll, the bridge is on the Gowrie corporate limits and should be completed by next November.

Webster County Auditor Shaunna Abrams updated the supervisors on the upcoming March 4 special election in which voters will determine if emergency medical services throughout the county will be funded as an essential service. Voting in-person at the Webster County Courthouse can be done through Monday. Polling locations will be open for voting on Tuesday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
