A death and a fire at the same location in Fort Dodge very early Wednesday morning are under investigation.

Police and paramedics were called to 1035 First Ave. S. at around midnight for a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Soon after they arrived, they called for more firefighters because heat and heavy smoke were found in the building.

A person who was found outside the building was declared dead at the scene.

The fire appeared to be on the top floor of the three-story building. Two hoselines were used to put it out.
