Excavators were tearing into the ground at the north end of Corridor Plaza Tuesday, beginning the process of building the next store in the complex.
The work is underway between South 27th Street and UnityPoint Clinic Express. BJ Stokesbary, a spokesman for the property’s owner, Crossroads Plaza Development, of Ankeny, confirmed that is the site of a planned AutoZone store.
AutoZone announced in December that it would build a store in Corridor Plaza. The company has not released any other details on its plans for its Fort Dodge store.
The company describes itself as the leading retailer of auto parts.
AutoZone stores measure between 6,500 and 8,000 square feet, according to the company’s website.
The new store will join Dunham’s Sports, Shoe Sensation, Maurice’s, Chick-fil-A, Teriyaki Madness, Clean Laundry, T-Mobile, Tidal Wave Auto Spa, and UnityPoint Clinic Express in the area that for decades was Crossroads Mall.
An ULTA cosmetics store is scheduled to open in Corridor Plaza this spring.
And more construction will be coming to the north end of the complex. Stokesbary said a Dairy Queen is planned for a site across South 27th Street from the AutoZone store.
